Geometry in Omaha - Final Movie

This entire project was pretty much done through PhotoShop. I went to the Old Market to take my video clips. Then when I came home and started my video, I created still frames, blew them up to full size, and took a screen shot. Once I had my screen shots, I was able to open them up on PhotoShop and add the different geometric concepts to the pictures. The transitions really helped with the flow between the different shots. All in all, it took about 15 hours! But it turned out ok.

Final PodCast: Escher's Tessellations

M.C. Escher Tessellations: Artistic and Geometric

Within this podcast I used Photoshop to edit the photo of Escher so that it looked like a painting in the beginning and then faded into a real photograph of him. I also used Photoshop to edit some of the tessellation pictures that have the shapes on them. That way you are able to see the original shape that is being tessellated.

Podcast Review

The podcast that I chose was called the Algebra II Podcast from Dublin City Schools. It was a little dry, but it is a great resource for students to go to for those nights that they forgot what we learned at school that day. It is visual and auditory for the students so it's like they are in class but maybe are able to see another way of it being taught rather than just my own methods. There are also excellent reviews for before quizzes and tests. The producer Troy Dramble goes through different lessons and points dealing with Algebra II within each episode. The episodes fall between three and thirteen minutes and have a good description so the students are able to go directly to what they need.
I really enjoyed the visuals because they look as though they are the actual images from the SMARTBoard that the professor uses. They are things that the students will be able to relate to within their book or notes and make a comparison to their own homework and study for tests.
I can see how I would be able to do something similar in my own classroom if I were to take the time and broadcast my own lessons. I think this would be a great idea for the students to be able to create as well if they were able to show how they solve the problems themselves. This would also be good for the parents to see what it is that their children are trying to learn.

Teacher Tube Video

Even though this video does not deal with math, I really enjoyed it. I do not like history very much at all, and this video was amazing. It really showed a brief history of the United States and now I even know the words of the song! I think that if a history teacher would show this in a classroom, the students would love it. If only there were songs and videos like this for the other subjects! Check it out for enjoyment and education!

Introduction

A little bit about myself. My name is April Buschelman and I am currently in my second year of teaching. I teach freshmen mathematics and also have a minor in English. I am the junior varsity softball coach and enjoy being active. I have created this blog as a spot in which I am able to share my thoughts on recent trends and information in education as well as using it as a spot for parents to stay in contact with what is going on in my classroom. I plan on posting projects that I am currently working on as well as projects my students will be working on.
